The new iOS8 (iPhone 4S) now saves photos as .AAE files..How do I change it so that it saves them as .Jpeg files again? Like it used to? AAE files are not recognized in anything I use..so basicaly, the iPhone camera is now useless..

Ah, I see your problem. iOS 8 still creates jpeg files, but for each image it ALSO creates an xml file for saving adjustments made to the photo. The xml file has the extension .aae. This is an emerging standard that allows .aae aware apps to track changes that have been made to images.
Ok..but how do you access the Jpeg files now? All I can pull from the phone is the AAE file..
When I import photos to a photo app (Picasa) on my computer it imports the jpeg file. What app are you using on your computer to import images?
No app at all, just windows explorer.. used to be a simple drag and drop..so now you are suggesting I need to use a app to do this?
I can't help here, as I have a Mac. But I haven't seen any other reports of a problem with AAE files importing but not JPEG, so it's likely something odd about your configuration. You should see both in Windows Explorer.
Ok I think I managed to get it figured out. Windows explorer only sees the .AAE file, but...
If you use the "Get pictures from camera" function. It starts the "Scanner and Camera Wizard"
If you allow the wizard to get the pictures, it pulls the .Jpeg files.
not as easy as before, but it will get the job done..

hi i had the same issuse for quite long time then i made my serach and simply just igonre it or remove it cause
AAE isn't an image file, it is a sidecar (XML) file.🙂
It just contains the "Edit" information from when you modify an image on the iPhone.
You should see something like this..
1234.jpg
1234.aae
The JPG is the actual image, the AAE is just instructions for what edits were made so the iPhone can reproduce your changes.
Basically... AAE isn't an image at all. Just text.
